Community Meeting

Community Meeting

Friday, August 9, 5:15 pm, Kresge Hall

As is tradition, CCN will close with the community meeting. The location of CCN2025 will be announced, and the floor will be open to the community for discussion of what we can do at future CCNs to best support our growing community.

Mind Matching

Mind Matching

Tuesday, August 6, 10:00 - 11:15 am, Sala de Puerto Rico (Stratton Student Center)

CCN is again partnering with Neuromatch to do Mind Matching! In an event right at the beginning of the CCN conference, meet with potential new collaborators, colleagues, and like-minded friends. Neuromatch’s proprietary approach “reads” your publications and interests and leverages machine learning and semantic processing techniques to find your best scientific matches. You’ll talk with several small groups over the course of an hour, and leave with new connections for the rest of the conference and beyond. Check out more about the Neuromatch matching events on their website.  Sign ups for Mind Matching at CCN are now closed.

Welcome to CCN 2024

Welcome to CCN 2024

Dear CCN attendees,

A warm welcome to Boston to all of you!

You are all kindly invited to the welcome reception on Tue (August 6) night (starting at 6:15pm) in Johnson Ice Rink (which is next door to Kresge Auditorium). The reception is jointly sponsored by MIT's Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences and Quest for Intelligence. We’ll provide drinks and finger foods.

Excited to see you there,
Talia Konkle and Ev Fedorenko, on behalf of the CCN2024 Organizing Committee

GUIS

Growing Up In Science (GUIS) @ CCN 2024

Location: MIT Museum (314 Main Street, Cambridge)

CCN 2024 will be hosting a special Growing Up in Science (GUIS) event featuring conference co-chairs Ev Fedorenko and Talia Konkle, where they will be interviewing one another about their respective personal and professional journeys in science.

Chaired by GUIS co-founder Weiji Ma, this event will take place from 7:00 - 8:00 pm on on Wednesday, August 7th and be co-located with the Social Event at the MIT Museum.

Ev Fedorenko is an Associate Professor of Neuroscience in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Talia Konkle is a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University.
Weiji Ma is a Professor of Neural Science and Psychology at New York University.

Social Event

Social Event

Date: Wednesday, August 7, 6:30 - 9:45 pm

Location: MIT Museum (314 Main Street, Cambridge)

Celebrate with us at the MIT Museum on Wednesday, August 7th!

We will head for the CCN Social at the MIT Museum [view location on map] from 6:30 to 9:45 pm. The MIT Museum is a 10-15 minute walk from the main conference site. The Social will have a bar, and catered dinner including vegetarian and vegan options. We will have access to the entire museum for the evening, and guests are free to explore the museum’s captivating collections during the social event. There will be musical entertainment and special art installations throughout the evening - stay tuned for updates!

For those who are interested, the Growing Up In Science (GUIS) event will take place during the social event in the museum’s auditorium (7:00pm - 8:15pm) chaired by Weiji Ma (featuring the careers of Talia Konkle and Ev Fedorenko).

Please make sure to bring your ticket (which you will receive at the registration desk on day 1).

After the social…

For those who have late-night energy, there will be several suggested activities for CCN attendees across Cambridge and Boston (...karaoke bar?! clubbing?) Stay tuned for further updates!

Thank you to McGovern Institute for Brain Research and Harvard Mind Brain Behavior Interfaculty Initiative for their generous support.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Diversity Lunch

Diversity Lunch

Date:  Thursday, August 8, 12:00 - 1:30 pm
Location:  Sala de Puerto Rico in the Stratton Student Center

We are excited to be hosting another "diversity lunch" for attendees this year!

We hope to use this opportunity to come together to discuss, in an informal and safe setting, the DEI challenges that face our community. By setting dedicated time aside to have these important conversations, we hope to spark concrete actions, and internal reflection, on how we can make our scientific field more inclusionary at all career levels.

We will be joined by representatives of the affinity groups Women in Neuroscience; Women in Machine Learning; Queer in AI and Black in AI.

Please join us on August 8th at 12pm to be a part of this discussion. All are welcome!

Call for Community Events

Call for Community Events

Call for Community Events for CCN 2024 Have Closed.

Submission Deadline: Friday, April 5, 2024

We're launching a unique opportunity to shape the CCN experience, called Community Events. Submit your idea for an event that ignites curiosity, fosters connections, and tackles topics that are of high relevance to the field, albeit not necessarily about cognitive computational neuroscience per se (e.g., topics including, but not limited to, open science, climate, career and culture will be considered, along with science-related topics like new benchmarking challenges or hackathons). We encourage submissions with novel or unusual formats. Think beyond traditional presentations: propose interactive round tables, collaborative hackathons, competitions, chalk talks, or something else.

  • A Community Event can be between 45 and 90 minutes in length.
  • The target audience should be a sizable proportion of CCN attendees, from MS & PhD students, to postdocs and PIs.
  • Participation should not require special knowledge that isn’t widely represented in the community. Events should aim to be inclusive and interesting to a wide audience.

Application Details

Applications can be made either by individuals or groups.

A submission should be a single PDF with a 2-page limit that includes:

  • Title If selected, this is the title that will be announced in the program. Please consider this in selecting a title and aim to avoid titles that are too vague or too niche.
  • Abstract (1-2 paragraphs): If selected, this abstract will be used to announce your community event. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your abstract, as not everyone at CCN will be an expert in your field. A succinct abstract that clearly states the research problems and approach can help get the CCN community excited about your event.
  • Outline (1-3 paragraphs), in narrative form, explaining what the event will look like, and what its main learning goals are.
  • Audience and Accessibility (1-3 Paragraphs): details about for whom this event will be most useful and how you plan to make it interesting, how many attendees the format would be for, and what background knowledge is required or helpful.
  • Requirements Everything you’d need from CCN: room size and setup (lecture hall, small tables,...), AV requirements etc.
  • List of Organizers A list of people involved, their roles, and confirmation that each person will attend CCN 2024 in person. Describe the background of people involved and their expertise in the relevant area. Include a reference to relevant publications.
  • A Link (if available) to previously given tutorials or similar teaching presentations or recordings.

Submission Method

As part of the submission process, you will upload a single PDF file that should not exceed two pages in length. You will need to have the email addresses of all co-applicants that are part of the proposal. By typing their names you confirm that everyone is willingly part of this proposal application, and we will email confirmation to all co-applicants.

Selection Process

The program committee will select a limited number of submissions (usually 1-2) for presentation at the conference and results will be announced mid May.

  1. Log In or Create an Account.
  2. If you have not completed your Account Profile, you will be asked to do so.
